The Loran/Claiborne Camp is provided for camping with ATV's and motorcycles.
The Claiborne trails are available for ATV, motorcycle, and horse use.
Hiking and biking are also allowed on the trail; however, they are primarily
used for motorized and equestrian rider. Daily usage fee is $7
located off U.S. Highway 165. From Forest Hill at the intersection of LA Hwy 112
East and U.S. Hwy 165, go north on Hwy 165 for 2.1 miles. Turn left (west) on
LA Hwy 112 West and travel 2.6 miles and turn right (north) on Forest Road 258.
Go 1.4 miles to the Loran-Claiborne Trailhead day-use parking area and the
camping areas are just past the parking area seperated by signs.
The Ahtus Melder Equestrian Camp is set up very openly, leaving the campers to
use their imagination on how best to camp. Melder Camp is very primitive, no water
is available, no restroom facilities, please bring your trash out with you and
enjoy your stay.
Located just off LA Hwy 112 West approximately one mile past
the Forest Road 258 turnoff to the Loran/Claiborne Trailhead Camp. Turn south
on Forest Road 267 and take an immediate left onto Forest Road 269. The camping
area is on the right in the grassy area under the large pines.
The BoyScout Camp Boy Scout camp is designated for use by motorcycle campers.
The facilities are similar to the Ahtus Melder camp in that no water is available,
no trash receptacles, and no restroom facilities.
From Forest Hill, take U.S. Hwy 165 north to Forest Road 214 and go north to 2.5
miles to Forest Road E055A and turn right. Go 1 mile to Forest Road E055B and turn
right. Boy Scout Camp will be on your right.
Directions to main camp take I49 exit 66 to Hwy 112w, take Hwy 165 north 2.1 miles. Turn left on Hwy 112W.
and you are at the old camp entrance.
OHV's must stay on the designated Claiborne trail. All cross-country (off-road, off-trail) travel
by any motorized vehicle, including OHV's, is prohibited. No mudding or destruction of resources
is allowed. All paved and gravel roads are closed to non-street legal OHV's. it is not legal to
cut-donuts in roads or to ride road cut banks and fill slopes. It is also not legal for riders to
cut their own trails.
